Disinfecting Tips At Home

Disinfecting Tips At Home

Cleaning your home’s most touched areas is a great place to start if you are looking for a simple way to start your regular Indianapolis housekeeping routine. Sanitizing your most touched areas at home is also an excellent cleaning task after an illness in your home to prevent it from spreading.

In my experience, the most efficient way to do house cleaning and to clean those most-touched areas is to batch them together wherein the light switches and switch plates go first, then the doorknobs, the kitchen handles, etc. Below is a list for everyone’s reference, which you may also give a copy to your maid for them to follow. A copy keeps the responsible person organized without missing any details, if a certain cleaner or cloth works better for a certain area, I can use that throughout the house, and if I can’t finish everything in one sitting, I can come back to it later.

Most Touched Areas:

light switches and switch plates
door knobs
bonus points for cleaning your doors
kitchen appliance handles (fridge, dishwasher, oven)
bonus points for cleaning your appliance fronts
telephones (landlines + cell phones)
staircase railings
cupboard and drawer knobs and pulls in the kitchen
cupboard and drawer knobs and pulls in the bathroom(s)
bonus points for cleaning your cupboard and drawer fronts
TV remotes
game controllers

How To Clean

Most of these touch areas can be cleaned with a microfiber cleaning cloth or bar mop towel and some all-purpose cleaner. There are a lot of ready-made cleaners available in the market, but I have also included below the ingredients I use for my spray and cleaner. A spray-on all-purpose cleaner can be sprayed right directly on your cleaning cloth and then wiped clean – spray, wipe, repeat.

All-Purpose Cleaning Spray
1 1/4 cups of water
1/2 cup white vinegar
10 drops of your favorite essential oil (lemon and clove is my favorite blend)

Indianapolis Maid Service tells that once you have all the ingredients listed above, mix them up and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. In this manner, the application of the mixed cleaner we made would be easier. Spray liberally on surfaces and wipe clean with a soft cloth.

For areas like doorknobs, light switches, and remotes/game controllers, you may pour rubbing alcohol on a cleaning cloth or bar mop towel and wipe. The alcohol kills germs and makes cleanup easy. As you may now realize, cleaning is not as difficult as you might think if you do it a little from time to time. Nevertheless, we cannot really blame you if tasks like these still took a lot of your time. No worries, we’ve got you covered.
